top 10 podcasts that inspire me to Get Creative

ree

I had originally planned to start blogging consistently in 2024. A lot of the year passed without my blog running through my mind. Well... that's not true. When it did appear in my thoughts, I immediately heard what Julia Cameron calls the inner critic in her book, The Artist's Way. My innerr critic said, "You aren't a good writer though." Ok, so maybe that's true, but I am a great artist.

I want to share my unpolished thoughts that I have while practicing my art. I want others to know about great podcasts and books that have changed my life. I guess here is where I should mention Glennon Doyle.

Glennon has a podcast, We Can Do Hard Things with her sister, Amanda Doyle and her wife, soccer star Abby Wombach. I had a friend recommend this podcast to me when I was in a state of high emotional overwhelm. Glennon's daughter, Tish Melton's opening song started to become an automatic way for me to relax and open my mind. The three of them have literally changed my life. I behave, think, and act differently because of this wonderful podcast. I don't remember the first one I ever heard, but one that sticks out for me is episode 220. Why So Many Women Don't Know They Are Autistic with Katherine May. I already knew I was Autistic by the time I heard this episode, but everything she said just validated my experience even more. They also help me learn about myself and how to get through rough times. Glennon's book, Untamed, inspired me creatively and personally as well. Do I think they are GODS, no. They make mistakes and I don't worship them; however, the three togteher bring a unique perspective to human relationships.

Around the same time I started listening to the aforementioned podcast, I found Bewildered, a podcast for people trying to figure it out. Martha Beck and Rowan Mangan made me LOL. One episode that had a huge impact was the one in which they talk about Rowan's mom mentioning the other butterflies. Again, another podcast about being neurodivergent; go figure. Then, I read one of Martha's books, because I heard her talk about her experience with chronic pain. There are still pages that I go back and reference, especially because she uses a humorous take on Dante's Inferno to guide the reader through the book.
